What is it?
Just like its HSV equivalent, the Ford Performance Vehicles GT-E is one of a dying breed of high-powered large sedans with a planet-stomping footprint and the sort of unsubtle aural presence that appeals to everyone's inner 10-year-old.
Under the bonnet there's a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and by golly what an engine this is, with 579Nm delivered anywhere from 2200 to 5500rpm, and the 335kW power peak picking up at 5750 to 6000rpm as torque tails off. That's more grunt than Holden's 6.2-litre V8 HSV can boast.
The FPV range is less visually flamboyant than the GM opposition, especially in this $95,990 GT-E guise designed to appeal to the buyer who prefers to fly under the radar.
And fly you will. Floor the go-pedal for instant whiplash. Thank goodness for stability control and a communicative chassis which often lets the driver gather it in before the electronic nannies do.
