A giant rock smashed through a windscreen hitting a woman driver in the face this morning.
The woman was driving along State Highway 1 between Hamilton and Cambridge when a rock the size of a football appears to have fallen off the back of a truck she was following and smashed through the windscreen of blue Toyota, a police media spokeswoman said.
The rock hit the driver at about 9.47am and she suffered multiple injuries including several broken teeth. She was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition before police arrived.
Police visited the woman at hospital where she told them she could not remember but thought the rock had fallen off from a truck, the spokeswoman said.
The car remains at the scene near Cherry Lane on SH1 and police are investigating.
