A Hamilton man received serious facial injuries last night when he interrupted an intruder stealing food from his house.
Inspector Scott Webb from the Police Northern Communications Centre said shortly before midnight, the occupants of a Glenview house were awoken by noises and found a man in the process of stealing food.
The male victim was assaulted by the intruder as he escaped.
The thief is described as a male Maori, about 22-years-old, dressed in black, wearing a white hoodie with black writing on it.
He ran off towards the Ohaupo road area.
As a result of the attack, the male victim was admitted to hospital with serious injuries to his jaw and eye socket area.
