"It's generally quite fine for the North Island, apart from a few areas."
In the South Island, a front over Otago and Southland will bring scattered showers for most of today.
"It may ease up a little bit [but] in general it's cloudy with a few showers for down south," Clark said.
"For the rest of the South Island we have very low cloud or fog on the east coast, so Christchurch has fog and we're expecting that to last until midday.
"In Banks Peninsula [fog] might just stick around all day, so they're going to have a cloudy sort of day. Elsewhere in the South island it's going to be pretty fine."
Clark said there was a possibility of low stratus cloud in Wellington near the airport, something that MetService would keep an eye on.
Tomorrow's forecast was not great for those on the east coast of the North Island.
"Places like Gisborne and Hawke's Bay will probably be showery, so that'll probably be the worst place.
"Places like Dunedin could have the odd spot of precipitation. There'll be patchy drizzle for dawn services but that should be breaking up during the day."
