Christchurch Airport reopened just after midday today after a morning of chaos brought on by the fog that ruined last night's Super 14 final for spectators.
Airport spokeswoman Shirley Irving said aircraft finally started to land just after midday following a morning of inactivity.
A lot of flights had to be diverted.
Among the delayed flights was a Qantas flight to Queenstown and a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore that was due to land at 10.40 but only managed to touch down just after midday.
"The fog's been quite bad but it has started to lift now which is really good," she said.
"They've just started to check people in again after suspending check in for most of the morning."
