Fog in Auckland this morning disrupted both domestic and international flights into and out of the city's airport.
Most domestic flights were either cancelled or delayed, while some international arrivals were being diverted.
About 20 members of the EPMU union, heading to Wellington for their biennial conference, were stranded in Auckland.
Stuart Hurst, its national industry organiser for manufacturing, spent 45 minutes on a plane on the tarmac before being disembarked.
A spokeswoman for Auckland Airport said normal operations resumed at about midday.
She said some domestic flights could be delayed because of a backlog and passengers should contact their airlines for updated flight information.
