Drugs and alcohol appear to have been ruled out in the death of Emily Longley, and detectives are now focusing on two teenage boys described as acting suspiciously.
Toxicology tests returned negative results for the 17-year-old, who was found dead at her boyfriend's house in Bournemouth, southwest England, on a Saturday morning last month.
Rumours were rife that the former Westlake Girls High and Takapuna Grammar student was an under-age drinker who dabbled in party drugs.
British police are now urging witnesses and anyone with information about her death to come forward.
The senior investigating officer, Inspector Neil Devoto, said police were searching a wooded area in Queens Park, near the address where the teenager was found dead.
"We are asking for information about two men described as in their late teens seen acting suspiciously in that area around 6pm the evening before she died," Mr Devoto said.
Her on-off boyfriend, Elliot Vince Turner, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested after her death.
Both were bailed and no charges have been laid.
Miss Longley was born in London but moved to New Zealand with her parents, Mark and Caroline, eight years ago. They have since separated and Miss Longley went to live with her grandmother in England in 2009.
Mr Longley declined to comment, at the request of the police. In an earlier statement, her parents urged anyone with information about their daughter's unexplained death to contact the investigation team.
"Our beautiful, wonderful Emily is gone and we don't know how. We have to wait until the police finish their investigations.
"We are confident that they will be thorough and we truly appreciate their sympathetic and discreet support."
Several days before her death, Miss Longley posted messages on Facebook suggesting someone was stalking her and she was "really scared" by anonymous phone calls.
