Fire fighters have freed a middle age man in Havelock North after a cherry picker came off the tow bar of a Hastings District Council ute and smashed through the windscreen of a van travelling in the opposite direction.
The man was cut from the van on the bridge near the Havelock Road and Karanema Drive roundabout at about 1.20pm today. Firefighters had to cut the man out of the van and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Road blocks were in place at the Havelock Road and Saint Georges Road roundabout and Havelock Road and Karanema Drive roundabouts for over an hour.
She said there were a number of police , two fire appliances and an ambulance present.
The condition of the man was not immediately available.
