Anonymous flyers distributed in a Christchurch suburb alleging a local man had convictions relating to sexual offences against children may contain incorrect information.
Shirley Papanui Community Board chairperson Yvonne Palmer said the flyers came to her attention on Sunday.
Ms Palmer said the flyers asked residents if they knew a certain person, who was named, lived in the community and had convictions relating to sexual offences against children.
"However, my understanding is that the flyers may have some false information," Ms Palmer said.
"I understand that there's been an acquittal on some of the stuff that's actually been released."
Ms Palmer said she didn't know who was responsible for the flyers.
"We want our community to work together and let's resolve it and use the mechanisms that are there and the agencies that need to be involved," she said.
"I don't want the vigilantes to start," she said.
