A man who went fly-fishing and disappeared was rescued after activating a personal locator beacon.
The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter said its crew were sent out after the beacon was activated at Shutes Hut on the Taruarau River in Hawke's Bay.
Rescuers conducted a search along the river in the Ruahine Ranges and found a 70 year-old man on the river about 1km from the hut.
The man was airlifted from that site and returned to the hut.
