Flooring firm fire 'does not appear suspicious'
Police say initial inquiries show a fire at a Palmerston North flooring company last night was not suspicious.
Palmerston North police and fire safety officers are continuing their investigations into what caused the fire in the central city company's premises.
Detective Glenda Barnaby said preliminary findings had indicated the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
Earlier today Palmerston North Fire Service Senior Station Officer Mark Cooper said firefighters remained overnight at the Rangitikei Flooring premises in Main Street to continue dampening the fire down and crews would be at the scene today to remove carpet.
Firefighters were called when the fire broke out just before 7pm.
Four Palmerston North crews battled the flames with help from Ashhurst and Bunnythorpe brigades.
Firefighters needed breathing apparatus because of the chance of dangerous fumes from burning rolls of vinyl and carpet.
