Coromandel residents want action from roading officials after wild weather cut off parts of the peninsula on Friday, stranding school children and trapping vehicles.
The problems started a weekend of wild weather, with fog causing the cancellation of 50 flights into and out of Auckland airport and delaying 47 others.
Whitianga volunteer fire chief Merv George said Friday's flooding was "quite extensive".
The small settlement of Manaia was one of the places worst hit by the flooding. Resident Ruth Mikaere drove to town and got stranded within half an hour of the rain arriving.
She said Manaia was a problem area for flooding."Every time we get heavy rain our road gets blocked."
An NZTA spokeswoman said low-lying roads in Manaia were vulnerable to flooding but little could be done about it.
Most of the affected roads reopened yesterday.
Rain is expected to continue today from Canterbury to Gisborne, but the rest of the country will see skies and winds clearing. Rain is expected and to return tomorrow for most of NZ.
