The Environment Ministry is conducting a two-year review to improve how the country manages its flood risk, Environment Minister Marian Hobbs announced yesterday.
Last year's Manawatu and Bay of Plenty floods had highlighted the vulnerability communities faced when a major flood hit, Ms Hobbs said in a statement.
"The review will ensure we have a robust approach to managing flood risk and controlling rivers that works for local communities," she said.
"It will provide a good picture of this country's current and future flood risk situation [and] it will also address what the role of local and central Government should be in managing flood risk."
