KEY POINTS:
Auckland's Civic Theatre has weathered many storms in nearly 80 years, but its roof could not cope with Sunday night's fierce downpour, resulting in flooding in downstairs areas.
Flooding was confined to rooms used for functions, and booked events had been moved to other venues, said a spokesman for The Edge entertainment precinct, Shelley McMeekan.
The theatre was reopened in 1999 after a $34 million upgrade.
