KEY POINTS:
Normal service has resumed at Wellington Airport after heavy fog forced the cancellation of at least 30 flights stranding hundreds of travellers.
A Wellington Airport spokeswoman said the airport was a lot quieter at 4pm this afternoon.
"Everything's pretty much cleared up," she said.
Air New Zealand cancelled 25 flights, with 800 passengers had to wait until the fog cleared just before 1pm.
The backlog was cleared by 3pm, an Air New Zealand spokesman said.
The closure delayed today's Cabinet meeting, with Prime Minister Helen
Clark unable to leave Auckland this morning and other ministers being unable to land in Wellington.
Fog stopped flights from about 8.30am and check-ins reopened about 12.30pm. Flights resumed landing at 1.15pm.
