A Christchurch-bound flight is on its way back to Auckland after thick fog meant the aircraft could not land this morning.
Fog finally cleared this afternoon, with flights being rescheduled as airlines worked to clear the backlog.
Air New Zealand spokeswoman Brigitte Ransom confirmed the fog had caused the cancellation of 10 outbound services this morning.
Inbound to Christchurch, 16 flights were either cancelled or diverted to alternative ports.
"Impacted customers are being reaccommodated on alternative services."
