Heavy fog has led to the cancellation of many flights into and out of Auckland International Airport and delayed Auckland ferry services this morning this morning.
Auckland International Airport senior communications manager Richard Llewellyn said 12 flights due to arrive at the airport this morning had been cancelled. A similar number of departing flights also had to be cancelled.
At this stage the fog was only affecting smaller regional aircraft and was having no impact on the arrival or departure of international flights, Mr Llewellyn said.
Fullers operations manager Ian Greenslade said this morning's fog was the thickest in a long time.
He said some ferry services were running as much as 45 minutes behind schedule with vessels travelling as slow as 5 knots.
"The timetable goes out the window for public safety," Mr Greenslade said.
He said only one sailing from Waiheke - the 8am - had been cancelled.
Mr Greenslade said the fog was beginning to clear at 10am and everything would be back to normal by the evening peak.
