A gender equality expert says some pregnant women have become frustrated with health and safety policies restricting their air travel.
Currently pregnant woman can only fly with a medical certificate until they're around 30 weeks pregnant - after that they're banned from flying.
Annick Masselot of Canterbury University says there's little scientific evidence to justify the bans and pregnant women are being unfairly singled out.
"A lot of women have been saying they either have to lie or they have been refused flight, in fact in New Zealand at the moment there is a complaint that has gone in front of the Human Rights Commission."
Professor Masselot hopes the complaint will lead to a policy change and a better environment for pregnant women.
