A couple assaulted a female community constable after they stole toys worth $200 and tried to get away on a bus yesterday afternoon.
The policewoman arrived at the bus stop outside St Lukes Mall as three Farmers security staff were getting the man off the bus.
After trying to assault the guards, the man launched himself at the officer, who received a couple of blows to her head and one to the arm. She did not wish to be identified.
A member of the public also stepped in to help subdue the couple.
The man and woman were arrested and taken to Auckland Central police station.
The man was charged with aggravated assault and theft and the woman with common assault and theft.
