The country's most-elected local government politician, Warren Flaunty, is confident of avoiding meeting-date clashes at his three Auckland local boards, the Waitemata District Health Board and the Waitakere Licensing Trust.
Last week, Mr Flaunty was sworn to serve a three-year term on local boards for Rodney, Upper Harbour and Henderson-Massey.
Two of the induction ceremonies were held on the same night, but he said the venues were six minutes' drive apart and "the evening worked out perfectly".
At Thursday's Henderson-Massey board meeting, he thanked members for their support in helping to arrange meeting dates that did not clash.
After the October 13 elections, Herald reports questioned how the busy pharmacy part-owner would fit in the workload of three boards, serving a combined population of 213,000.
"Although there have been some negative comments, there has also been some very positive feedback," said Mr Flaunty. "I feel there has been a lot of overreaction to my positions."
However, he has made one concession - he relinquished chairmanship of the Waitakere Licensing Trust, which he had held for eight years.
"This is to enable me to concentrate on the three local boards."
He said the boards' weekly meetings were on different days, Wednesdays were reserved for health board matters and on Fridays he would be at the Westgate Pharmacy.
Flaunty sure he'll make it to meetings
