Flatmates almost miss out on $1 million Lotto

Two flatmates are celebrating after claiming their $1 million Lotto prize from the weekend.

The residents of Amberley, Canterbury, usually take turns buying their weekly ticket, but last week one of them forgot.

The other flatmate remembered and managed to buy a ticket before the draw.

"I now joke that he still owes me $6 for that winning Lotto ticket!"

The flatmates plan to pay off bills, and are thinking about buying their own homes with their winnings. They have no plans to give up their day jobs.

"It won't seem real to us until we get the money in our bank accounts. Then hopefully I can relax, properly celebrate and get some sleep," one of the winners said.

Their winning ticket was sold at Countdown Rangiora.

The other million-dollar winning ticket from the weekend, sold in Nelson, has also been claimed.
