Flames engulfed the roof of a home in Hastings this morning.

Fire Service spokesman David Meikle said three crews went to the Fitzroy Ave blaze just before 5.30am.

The fire was now out but one crew was still at the scene.

"It was well alight when the brigade turned up," Mr Meikle said.

"The fire was in the roof of the dwelling. It's all out now."

It is not known whether anyone was in the house at the time of the blaze.

A fire investigator would look into the cause of the blaze
