Five drivers have been arrested and their cars impounded for alleged illegal street racing in Wellington, police say.
Police were alerted to a group of five cars allegedly driving at high speed around the coastal roads of the Mirimar Peninsula on Sunday.
Officers tracked down the suspected drivers.
Five young Wellington men, aged between 17 and 21, will next appear at Wellington District Court on October 23 facing a number of driving related charges.
It comes a fortnight after two vehicles on State Highway 2 were allegedly caught driving at more than 200km/h.
