A five-year-old boy was playing outside when he was struck and killed by a car in Manurewa this afternoon, police say.
Police said the young boy was playing close to shops on Dalgety Dr when he was hit by an eight seater van at about 1:30pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokeswoman said the boy's mother was accompanying his body to Auckland City Mortuary.
The van driver is being interviewed by police while serious crash investigators conduct a scene examination, she said.
