It was mission accomplished when a Netball Wairarapa team attended the under-19 and 21 combined centres tournament in Taita.
Coach Kala Dudson said the main intention was to boost the chances of local players being invited to participate in Wellington age group trials and no fewer than five had made the grade: Victoria Green (Harcourts), Shontelle Renata (Harcourts), Sheridan Gallon-Puhara (Makoura College), Hannah Brewer (Carterton) and Shannon Sim (St Matthew's).
Joining them in the Wairarapa lineup, who placed sixth overall, were Renee Cummings (Harcourts), Jess Atmore (St Matthew's), Lucy Denniston (St Matthew's) and Katie Greig (Trevs).
Player of the tournament for Wairarapa was Hannah Brewer, who moved from Taranaki to study at the Taratahi Agricultural Training Farm. She was outstanding on both attack and defence.
