KEY POINTS:
Five people are in Dunedin Hospital after being rescued from their overturned boat in the Taieri River mouth, south of Dunedin, this morning.
Inspector John Doherty said three men and two women were on board when the boat capsized about 10.40am. Four were initially rescued but a man in his 40s was trapped under the overturned boat.
"A commercial diver was used to rescue the male, who has been airlifted to Dunedin Hospital," Mr Doherty said.
The other four were taken to hospital by road.
Inquiries into the cause of the capsize were continuing.
