KEY POINTS:
Five people, one of them a child, were rescued from their overturned boat on the Wellington coast last night.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter was called in at 8.30 after the boat containing two men, two women and a child was capsized by a wave while it was beached at Open Bay near Porirua.
The party lit a fire on shore after their ordeal and waited to be rescued. They were flown to Wellington Hospital for assessment.
