The weekend road toll stands at five after the death of a man who was hit by a van on State Highway 2 near Hastings early yesterday morning.
Police said the 22-year-old was walking home from a work function between Hastings and Napier about 3am when he was clipped by a van.
Lance Warren Curtis, 20, was killed and another man critically injured when a van crashed near Dunedin on Saturday night and on Friday night Murupaegna Kingi, 19, and Meshach Hamana, 18, died when their car crashed into a wall in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough. Police said speed was a factor in the crash.
Also on Friday night, Peter Anthony Lister, 57, of Feilding, died when the vehicle he was driving crashed while approaching a bridge on State Highway 54 north of Feilding.
