Five charged over West Auckland street attack

Five people will appear in court today charged with assaulting a 22-year-old man in a street fight in West Auckland.

The man was yesterday in critical condition in Auckland City Hospital.

Police said he suffered life-threatening injuries in the fight between two groups of people in Rathgar Rd, Henderson, at 1.30am on Saturday.

A female was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police said weapons including bricks, bats and pieces of fence were found at the scene and they had seized three vehicles.

Those arrested, aged between 17 and 25, will appear in the Waitakere District Court.
