Random check points in Feilding and the surrounding area picked up five drink drivers last night.
The Palmerston North police traffic alcohol group carried the checks and no drink drivers were found in the more rural locations, but between 7pm and 1am five men who were over the limit were stopped either heading into or out of the town.
All were driving on 100km/h roads and one driver blew 1086, nearly three times the 400 limit.
"Feilding has suffered enough tragedy in recent weeks," said Senior Sergeant Nick Dobson of the Central District Traffic Support Unit.
"It is disappointing and extremely frustrating that irresponsible drivers are willing to put even more lives at risk."
