Two police cars were rammed last night during a car chase in Auckland, in which five cars were smashed up.
The incident began when a car failed to stop in the Grey Lynn suburb and rammed into a police car as it speed away.
Two police units pursued the car. A member of the public flagged down one unit and said he knew where the offending car was.
The member of the public and the police positioned their cars across the dead-end street to block the driver but he found a way through and rammed both cars at high speeds in the process.
A 38-year-old man was charged with failing to stop.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries. A female passenger in the car was arrested and charged with obstruction.
Police said further charges are likely.
