KEY POINTS:
Whangarei police have seized five cars in the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who killed a young Korean student earlier this month.
Korean exchange student Sang Je Lee, 18, was struck by a car on March 5 while sleeping in the carpark of Whangarei's Okara Shopping Centre, where he was waiting with friends to buy tickets to the Red Hot Chili Pepper concert.
Sang Je had lived in Whangarei for three years.
Police believed the car was a dark grey Nissan Skyline and the driver was a male.
Public pleas were made by police, and Sang Je's parents for the driver to come forward, but despite a large public response, no one has admitted to hitting the teen.
Detective Shane Pilmer of the Whangarei CIB said today police were still working through a raft of information relating to the vehicle involved.
Surveillance and video footage from businesses in the area were screened to see if the vehicle had been captured on tape.
As well as those waiting in the queue for tickets, nightshift workers and other possible witnesses were contacted in the search.
Five cars had been seized for forensic examination.
Three had been cleared of involvement and returned to their owners, while the remaining two were still to undergo testing.
In the meantime, police are appealing to anyone who might have information in respect to the accident to come forward.
