Two Wellington fishermen had to be winched to safety after their boat capsized off the Kapiti Coast this afternoon.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to an the area near Paekakariki about 12.55pm.
A paramedic on board the helicopter was lowered down to the men, who were about 100 metres off shore, and winched one of them to safety, dropping him in a nearby carpark.
The helicopter then returned to the spot, where a lifesaver was waiting with the other fisherman, and winched him to safety as well.
The Hutt Valley brothers, in their 30s and 40s, were airlifted to Wellington Hospital for a quick check and were expected to be released this afternoon.
