More than 300 fishermen turned out to the Lake Ferry Beach fishing competition held in near perfect conditions last weekend.
This was more than twice the number of competitors last year.
The competition was held on Saturday with a light cloud cover, an off-shore breeze and light half-metre surf.
Species weighed during the day included blue moki, snapper, barracuda, kahawai, yellow-eyed mullet and spotted parrot fish. Red cod were the most numerous fish caught.
Vis Vandayar won a Suzuki Quad Bike sponsored by Fagan Motors Ltd, of Masterton, with his 2.4kg kahawai.
