More than 300 fishermen turned out to the Lake Ferry Beach fishing competition held in near perfect conditions last weekend.
This was more than twice the number of competitors last year.
The competition was held on Saturday with a light cloud cover, an off-shore breeze and light half-metre surf.
Speciesweighed during the day included blue moki, snapper, barracuda, kahawai, yellow-eyed mullet and spotted parrot fish. Red cod were the most numerous fish caught.
Vis Vandayar won a Suzuki Quad Bike sponsored by Fagan Motors Ltd, of Masterton, with his 2.4kg kahawai.
The second senior heaviest kahawai of 2.1kg was caught by Sarai Te Tau, who won a Daiwa surf rod and reel.
The junior prizes were surf rods and reels, sponsored by King and Henry, Masterton.
The Lions and Lioness' of the South Wairarapa worked hard to make the event a success and will present a cheque in the next few weeks to Wairarapa Search and Rescue teams who assisted on the day.
