A man on a fishing vessel has been winched to hospital after suffering from a medical condition out at sea.
The 50-year-old was winched to safety with the help of the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the NZCT (NZ Community Trust) Rescue Winch.
The man is thought to have suffered "a cardiac event'' while fishing on a 24m commercial fishing trawler just north of Mayor Island, off the Bay of Plenty.
"The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was able to locate the vessel and use the NZCT Rescue Winch to lower a rescue paramedic onto the boat,'' a statement said.
"The helicopter landed on Mayor Island while the man was treated on board and prepared for transport.''
