A 51-year-old fisherman was rescued from a commercial fishing boat near Nelson this morning.
The local man was on a 19m fishing vessel when he developed a medical condition and was "in a lot of pain", according to Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter paramedics.
Colleagues were motoring towards Nelson for assistance when the helicopter found them in Tasman Bay at 7.30am.
A St John Intensive Care Paramedic was winched down to assess the patient, before he was winched into the helicopter and flown to Nelson hospital in a serious condition.
