A fish and chip shop in Southland has been badly damaged in a fire overnight.
Fire Service spokesman Rewai Grace said crews were called to the blaze in Riverton, about 1.52am.
Mr Rewai said the fire service pooled together resources from a 25km radius of the fire to help fight the blaze.
Five trucks were called to the scene from Riverton, Thornbury, Colac Bay and Invercargill.
The "good-sized fire" has now been extinguished, with the last truck leaving the scene about 6am, Mr Rewai said.
