I'm astounded! The big question for me is simply "Why?". In what way will this enhance and improve the lives of Aucklanders who already struggle with an infrastructure far inferior to that of other cities throughout the world? My 3rd form high school geography class did a feasibility study on reducing the bottle neck on the Harbour Bridge and decided on the "Park n Ride" scheme in favour of 2 others muted. That was in 1985! If it takes the Auckland Regional Council 20 years to come to the conclusion that a bunch of 13 year olds did in a week, then before proceeding with this misdirected waste of public money, might I suggest asking my nephew's class of 6 & 7 year olds whether when they are in their late 20's they would prefer to have a potentially unused park or the ability to have more money in their pockets and a richer lifestyle. Although judging by the people involved in making these decisions, option 2 is no doubt what they are looking forward to reaping from such a deal in the short term.

Great ambitious plan for Auckland! The problem remains the same. The central city is a ghost town, most of the time over the weekends. The reason is that it is impossible to park in ample free spaces without a parking warden emerging from his place of hiding. This is the only greedy country I know of, who operates wardens during the weekend. I lived in Paris, California, Tel Aviv and Sydney. No ticketing during the weekend. So I stay out of town and same for other thousands of Aucklanders. Who loses? Businesses of course!

Bait shops and fishing off this area is a terrible idea. And it would be a scandal to get rid of the iconic red fence. If you don't know why you should read some history. This development on the other hand - brilliant. About time we had a waterfront worthy of the America's Cup.

Providing the ratepayers don't have to dig into their ever decreasing pay packets. Let the owners/users of the farm pay for the new look. No more rate increases. Stick to the basics and save us all some money.

We did not have the foresight or back bone to build a stadium. We do not have the know how to build a metro system, yet we think we can build a tank farm. Perhaps Tui are sponsoring this.. "Yeah Right" Next thing someone will put a tree on top of Mt Maunganui and call it One Tree Hill. Or a tunnel under the harbour from Freeman's Bay and call it a Funnel. But carry on with the good ideas, they make interesting reading. Instead of being called JAFAs we Should be called JAFIs. Auckland the land of "Just Another Fng Idea"

This is a fantastic outcome, not only for Aucklanders but for all Kiwis. Hopefully the Auckland City Council and ARC can work together smoothly to complete this major project without delay or fuss! Go for it you guys.
Tricki, make it fun
Great to see we're going to claim back some of this missing waterfront for the public. Let's offer some great parks, malls and fun areas e.g. a wave pool pioneered by Kiwi ingenuity (world unique), flowriders etc.

Hope the increase in my water bill isn't for funding the sewage upgrade that'd be needed.

Good if you like grass I suppose, there is a heck of a lot of it. I mean it's not exactly a Fisherman's Wharf or a Darling Harbour, is it? Needs an iconic something because otherwise it's all a bit bland as shown in the artists impression. Step in the right direction though and gets one thumb up from me.

Got roads? Everything down town is hard to get to. Motorway access in and out of the CBD is ridiculously inadequate. In your coverage of this development please explain how the city will handle the increased traffic flows around this district and let us know if you feel the plans are adequate.

Okay, another plan Stop just talk about it on the paper again and again but doing nothing. Build the damn thing!

This looks like it will be wonderful. Now we just have to make sure that the final result is the best possible, with iconic buildings and accessible greenspace. There is so much potential in that site, but there will only be one opportunity to do it properly. Ultimately one body needs to take the lead and have unitary authority to make decisions over the development of this site, otherwise we will have yet another stadium like clanger and be lumped with a cheap "compromise", funded by the utilisation of the best parts of this area by quick buck developers.

That looks orsum!

I'm becoming increasingly torn on these kinds of issues. Whilst the plans do look good, there's an injection of another $230m of public money required - which will probably double by the time it's finished. The investors will do well from it and the public will be taxed to help build it. This on top of all the other unfinished projects and increased taxes. How much vision for the future is a person supposed to be able to stomach or afford?
DG
At last something worthy for the people of Auckland.
Buzz and Dunedin
Who gives a rats a@se how Aucklanders want to waste their money. You will all bitch and moan so much it will never go ahead anyway.

Where's the stadium?
Kelstar
Iconic building? Perhaps a world class stadium?
John, passionate NZer (Auckland)
Boring, boring, boring. When are we actually going to get something in this city that will make New Zealand proud? We badly need an icon and the tank farm has the space for it. Think Sydney opera house, darling harbour, think London docklands. Have a national competition that includes the public, architects, but let's not just have just another park. I want to see something that shows off New Zealand to the world. Stop wasting money on new trees for Auckland, and not building a new waterfront stadium, or worse still, building a small arena with bad acoustics and poor transport links. Think outside the square, think infrastructure, transport links, then develop it into something spectacular.
'Build, and they will come'

Looks great, awesome to see the potential of a green area on the Auckland waterfront. I do hope they don't increase the land area allocated to apartments and retail anymore however. As much green as possible should be the goal. I would like to see an underground link from Britomart to the shops/park area as well however. That would potentially be a good start to underground network.
Arron
Good to see part of the site earmarked for an iconic building. Lets make it the rugby stadium the sandal wearers did us out of last time, pay for it by demolishing Eden Park and turning it into an apartment complex.
David Pacey
Great idea but like most ACC and ARC kite flying proposals will believe it when I see it. Sounds more like a smoke screen for recent negative council publicity to me.
Alan
Finally, a waterfront development for the people. Not a sports stadium that will only ever be filled on rare occasions. This could be the showcase of city/harbour convergence. Beautiful from the land or from the sea. Now listen to the rest of the country as they express their jealousy of Auckland, yet again.
Harry L (Waitakere City)
Looks great. The only thing it needs is a small shop selling fresh bait and it would be perfect. Let's get rid of the red metal fence around the rest of the waterfront next!
Great idea but - oh no!
I would really like to feel happy about this, I really, really would, I mean, upon completion we will have a waterfront to be truly proud of! Unfortunately, considering the councils current track record I can only focus on the huge rates increase that surely will follow to pay for this.

Fantastic - not before time.

Perhaps some of the park land should be landscaped to provide above sea-level scenic vantage points.
