Police are calling for witnesses after the first road fatality of a rainy Labour Weekend.
A 21-year-old Puketutu man crashed his motorbike this morning at the Hutchinson Road and Morrinsville-Walton Road intersections at about 6am and has died from his injuries.
There were no other vehicles involved and police inspectorIan Brooker said police were called to the crash scene by ambulance staff.
Matamata locals have been complaining about the safety of their roads recently - including where Hutchinson Road and Morrinsville-Walton Road intersect.
This month a man wrote his car off trying to avoid a tourist who had stopped their car near the junction, which is near the crest of a hill.
Police now want to speak with anyone who saw or heard a motorbike on Hutchinson Road between 5:30am and 6am this morning to contact Matamata police on 07 888 7117.
Three people were killed on the roads during Labour Weekend last year.
