One of the biggest fireworks displays Auckland has seen will cap off today's anniversary festivities.
The three-day Auckland Harbour Festival to celebrate the city's anniversary has seen hundreds of people flock to the Viaduct area.
Festival promoter David Rose expects tonight's concert featuring Goldenhorse and the last-ever gig by the Exponents will be an amazing show.
But he said the fireworks display at the end of the evening promises to be the must-see event.
He said the crackers will be shot off barges in the harbour and the display will run for nearly quarter of an hour.
It includes the detonation of a 24-inch shell which will go half a kilometre high and the same distance wide.
The Exponents are not ruling out a comeback in the future, but tonight sees the end of their last-ever tour.
The band got back together for their 25th anniversary and the tour has been a huge success, selling out in most places.
Tonight the band plays for the last time.
Manager Barry Blackler said the band members all want to concentrate on new projects already on the go.
He said if a special show came up they might do it, but they definitely do not want to tour any more.
Barry Blackler said the Exponents will go out on a high tonight, with Jordan Luck pulling a few tricks out of the bag including a couple of surprise guests.
