KEY POINTS:
A firebug kept Palmerston North firefighters busy on Friday night, with six blazes stretching fire service resources.
The first five burned toetoe bushes on the roadside and the sixth consumed a giant haystack, comprising about 20,000 bales.
"It was wanton destruction that caused a lot of resources and manpower to be used for a long period of time," Palmerston North chief fire officer Rodger Calder said.
