Firefighters using dry powder have been fighting a fire in a generator room at the Pacific Steel plant in Otahuhu, south Auckland.
When they arrived at 6.15am they found the generator room burning fiercely and attacked it with dry powder extinguishers, said Fire Service communications centre shift manager Scott Osmond.
Within a short time a third alarm had been transmitted and 15 appliances were at the fire.
Mr Osmond said the generator room also contained a transformer and fuel and the fire could not be fought with water.
