Firefighters aren't just good at getting cats out of trees, turns out they're pretty handy getting dogs out of holes, too.
Cromwell firefighters were this afternoon called to a rural McFelin Rd property by a couple who were frantic after their daughter's chihuahua-Jack Russell-cross, which they were looking after for the weekend, disappeared down a rabbit burrow.
A large tree was growing over the top of the hole and its roots made it too hard for the couple to dig down to Ollie the pooch, so they called in the cavalry.
Firefighter Kris King said they could hear the little dog scampering around under their feet but couldn't lure him out.
The firefighters used a saw and shovels to carefully dig their way down.
