Eight lucky ducklings can thank local firefighters for saving their lives after following mother duck didn't go to plan.
Papakura fire brigade was called to an animal rescue in Karaka this afternoon.
Station Officer Jeff Lund said it appeared the brood who were "a day or so old" were following their mum when they slipped through a storm drain.
"They were all swimming down in the bottom and the mother and father were quacking away at the top."
After a call from the public it took the four firefighters five to 10 minutes to free the fluffy ducklings. Lund said it wasn't the first time the brigade had rescued ducklings, although it was the first time this year.
