Firefighters are pleading with people in the top half of the North Island to get a permit before lighting fires outside.
Conditions in Northland are very dry, and scrub and grass fires have been flaring up over the past few weeks.
Fire Service spokesman Paul Radden said there was a new fire in Pipiwai this morning, and blazes at Karikari Peninsula, Kawau Island and Cable Bay in the Far North.
He said if people are having an outside event that involves a fire - even a barbeque - they should make sure they have adequate fire fighting gear.
