Spirits are high among Kiwi firefighters as they prepare to fly home after helping to battle bushfires in Australia.
A National Rural Fire official says all but one of the 48 firefighters will return today.
That one is still receiving treatment for burns. Some have already volunteered for a second deployment in the new year.
