KEY POINTS:
Firefighters are this morning dampening hot spots at a Blenheim timber production factory gutted by fire last night.
The fire at the Flight Timbers property on Waters Avenue began around 7pm at the 50m by 50m building.
Fire communications shift manager Brian Sharpe told NZPA this morning the fire was pretty much out.
Four fire appliances were still at the scene and would be working dampening it down and putting out hot spots for a few more hours this morning, he said.
More than 30 firefighters, using seven appliances and four tankers, battled the blaze overnight.
No other properties had been in danger, fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said.
However, Marlborough District Council staff were investigating whether an environmental hazard was posed by the blaze, given the presence of industrial toxins and chemicals on site.
A fire safety officer would investigate the cause of the fire.
