KEY POINTS:
Firefighters in the Wellington region have been kept busy dealing with two large blazes.
Five appliances were called to Rata Street in Lower Hutt at ten o'clock where a house was alight. It took fire fighters three and a half hours to contain the blaze.
A commercial building has also been destroyed in Mt Victoria near the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The fire took three hours to extinguish.
A Fire Service spokesman says it is not known how the two fires were started, but investigations will be launched today. No one was injured.
