A pair of unrelated grass fires broke out alongside rural roads in Wairarapa yesterday, including a flare up from a blaze firefighters battled on Monday.
Featherston fire chief Colin McKenna said two fire crews from the town joined rural firefighters from Lake Ferry and Tora to battle a fire that broke out just after 2pm yesterday in roadside grass on East West Access Rd.
Mr McKenna said fire had spread across an area about 300m x 30m and was "probably a flare-up from the fire on Monday".
He said Featherston firefighters had battled the blaze with rural firefighters for about two hours yesterday and had left the rural crews to dampen down hotspots.
About the same time, Carterton firefighters began battling a fire that erupted in roadside grass on Andersons Line near the town.
