Firefighters in the upper North Island have been busy overnight dealing with numerous small fires.
The Fire Service received 40 calls between 6pm and 12.30am for fires in the region north of Turangi.
Spokeswoman Tania Matthews said they were mainly small scrub fires, along with rubbish fires.
She said there were also a few calls from people concerned about fireworks being let off.
A total fire ban is currently in place for the Auckland region, and includes fireworks.
